Dr Jonathan Foo is a Consultant General & Colorectal surgeon at FeM surgery.

Dr Foo graduated from the National University of Singapore in 2002, obtained his Membership of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (MRCSEd) in 2007 and received his Master of Medicine in Surgery (MMed) in 2008. He completed his advanced surgical training and became a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (FRCSEd) in 2012.

Following successful completion of the fellowship examinations, Dr Foo was appointed Consultant Surgeon in the Department of Surgery, Alexandra Hospital (AH) in 2012. In the same year, he was awarded the prestigious Ministry of Health Human Manpower Development Programme (HMDP) scholarship where he spent a year with world-renown Colorectal surgeon Professor Amjad Parvaiz at the Minimally Invasive Colorectal Unit in Portsmouth, UK, a National Training Centre for Colorectal Surgery and the only Intuitive European Epicenter for Robotic colorectal surgery in the UK., During his time there, Dr. Foo mastered advanced techniques in laparoscopic and robotic colorectal surgery; and concurrently served as a proctor at Colorectal courses in the UK, Europe and Russia.

Upon completion of his surgical fellowship, Dr Foo returned to work at AH and was heavily involved in the transition process, including establishing the Colorectal Service, the paperless Electronic Medical Records (EMR) system, and setting up of the operating theatres, to the newly completed Ng Teng Fong General Hospital (NTFGH) in June 2015. On the its momentous opening, Dr. Foo also performed the very first surgical operation at the hospital.

His interest in teaching has led to him to continue to present at many local and international meetings in Asia, Europe, United Kingdom and United States. Dr Foo was the chairperson of the Surgical Skills Lab and pivotal in equipping and opening the state-of- the-art, fully 3D-capable cadaveric surgical training facility. He was both Course Director and proctor for the Singapore Haemorrhoid Operative Therapy (SHOT) Course, and Laparoscopic Colorectal Surgery Masterclass. He was also a Clinical Core Faculty Member for junior doctors training, a Clinical Tutor with the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine and served on various review committees in the hospital including surgical audit, quality audit, peer review learning and simulation training.

Dr Foo has expertise in managing various General Surgical and Colorectal conditions, particularly with cancer and benign diseases of the colon and rectum. He excels at advanced endoscopic, open and minimally invasive (“key-hole”) techniques, as well as robotic surgery.

Dr Foo was responsible for pioneering and standardizing the technique of
Transanal Total Mesorectal Excision (TaTME) and the use of Indocyanin Green (ICG) at NTFGH for Colorectal Surgery and is one of only three surgeons in Singapore who performs this specialized procedure routinely for colorectal cancer.

He is an expert at advanced surgical procedures for conditions of the anal region including haemorrhoids (piles), anal abscesses, anal fistulas, constipation and incontinence. Dr Foo is a specialist Colorectal surgeon with comprehensive training in other minimally invasive ( are in laparoscopic) General Surgical conditions such as hernia repair and gallbladder surgery. He will be leading the Colorectal Centre @ FeM and the Laparoscopic & Robotic Centre @ FeM and is looking forward to continue to provide comprehensive, high quality, patient focused surgical care.

Dr Foo firmly believes that every surgical procedures must be customized to the individual in order to achieve an optimal outcome for his patients.
